Funding for Assistive Technology
If assistive technology is being used as part of a student's educational program and is specified in the I.E.P., then the district is obligated to provide it. This can include the purchasing, maintenance, and training of the assistive technology device. Before a product is bought you should consider trying it before buying it. Medicaid, Medicare, private health or disability insurance and Worker's Compensation may pay for some assistive technology. Keep in mind the medical necessity for the product and a prescription from a doctor or other health professional will be required.
